A reproduction of Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux's "La Negresse" as housed in The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The artist's 1872 work was created as a protest of slavery in Africa and throughout the world. Don't be fooled by cheap imitations. This piece is heavy cast fiberglass and not a cheap poly resin piece. That is sold by Design Toscano or Wayfair and many others. It is important to know that there are other versions of this piece that are made from resin only and are cast very thin they do not have fiberglass in them and break fairly easily. These are usually imported from China and not made here in the USA like our piece. Many products you see today are often imported from China and our resin only and if left outdoors in the elements they will break down. Our products are true fiberglass and are cast about a quarter of an inch thick they could be placed outdoors year-round. For a few dollars more you can get a real fiberglass piece. Several finish options are available for this piece
